Women Powering Odisha’s Energy Transition

Clean Futures Odisha (CFO): Women Powering Odisha’s Energy Transition

Odisha produces 15% of India’s thermal power yet remains highly vulnerable to cyclones, floods, and pollution.

By 2030, the state targets 43% renewable energy — and Clean Futures Odisha places women at the forefront of this shift, transforming them from energy users into energy leaders.

Why Odisha?

  • At the frontline of the crisis: Energy-rich but climate-vulnerable — 48 million people, 23% indigenous, and rising risk from extreme weather.
  • Unmatched grassroots strength: Over 7 million women in self-help groups (SHGs) under Mission Shakti, backed by NABARD and UNDP.
  • Supportive policy environment: Odisha’s SAPCC and renewable roadmap provide strong momentum for a just energy transition.

What CFO Does

  • Builds women’s leadership: Establishes Women-led Energy Committees and trains CFO Champions to shape local energy decisions.
  • Expands clean energy access: Pilots solar irrigation, clean cooking, biogas, and efficient lighting for rural homes.
  • Unlocks opportunity: Connects women to energy-linked livelihoods, reduces costs, and amplifies their voices in India’s Net Zero 2070 planning.

Our Journey (2025–28)

  • Engagement at scale: 25,000+ women and girls trained across Angul, Koraput, and Kendrapara.
  • Tangible climate gains: 4–6 MtCO₂ reduced through women-led clean energy adoption.
  • Systemic change: Gender equity embedded into Odisha’s energy roadmap, expanding economic opportunity for entire communities.

Impact by 2028

  • 25,000 women and girls trained and engaged in clean energy adoption.
  • 4–6 MtCO₂ reduced through women-led energy transitions.
  • Expanded economic opportunity for households and communities.
  • Gender equity integrated into Odisha’s SAPCC and renewable energy roadmap.
